The Most Important Gifts

Gifts of a Kind’s first gift idea.

Well, there are thousands of original, unique and even handcrafted gifts out there. Deciding on what to feature as the first gift is very difficult. As I sifted through the hundreds of ideas in my head I ran across two gifts today. These gifts are the most important gifts of all and I can’t think of a better way to launch this site than to feature them first.

One Great Gift.

The Cincinnati Enquirer features the story of 18-year-old Kelsey Tolliver, who was spending her Easter Sunday selling newspapers at a local hospital to raise enough money for her senior prom. An unidentified gentleman walked up, bought a paper and told her to keep the change. She had thought the man had given her $4 for the $1.50 paper which is very generous. However, a moment later she looked down to see he had left $500 in $20 bills.

No Great Gifts.

For her 11th birthday, Victoria Kelley decided the best gift would not be for her but for others. In her birthday invitations she requested that no gifts be brought but instead that gifts be given to the soldiers currently serving in Iraq. Quite a loot was raised to be given to our brave soldiers. The most amazing thing is that this is not the first time she has requested such unusual gifts. For her 10th birthday she raised money for two non-profit organizations.

These random acts of kindness and generosity remind us that really the best gifts of all are the ones that affect others. Neither the rare, the lavish or the most thoughtful gifts can compare to those that are given to others in a more charitable sense.
